BUILD A BANGER SHELL

WRCC races Bangers on a permenant oval track on Thursday evenings. WRCC features a Post & wire Fencing & an infield with a cross over to Run figure eight meetings. The track has tight turns & narrow straights which challenge the capabilities of both car and driver. Banger racing is a contact sport with the aim to smash your opponent out of the way to gain places this causes Pile ups on the track.

For this reason, horsepower and the latest equipment aren’t as important as in some other classes; technique and consistency are the keys to going fast. Staying out of trouble & making sure if you hit another car your opponent will be the one to come off worse.

Banger racing is Ideal for beginners to try model car racing. Easy to Build & can be purchased from most good model shops for as little as £60. With spares being very cheap in comparison to other classes, the cars are ideal for younger racers as they offer an affordable yet fun class to race in. The Banger car is a Mardave V12 which is sold as a Banger Kit from Mardave. You can get them from the club. The cars run on a 4 cell battery pack and can only be fitted with a manual speed controller, this way the cars are all

the same when it comes to speed and no one car has the advantage.

As with the full size Banger you can race any road production car you like & there is plenty body shells to Choose from you can get

these from the High Wycombe club or from Mardave or Kamtec Models. There is over a 150 body styles from classic cars like Mk10 Jags

to Austin A60’s or Modern cars like Nissan Bluebirds or Ford Mondeo’s.

There are three categories when choosing what shell to race that is desided on with you want a wreck or race or just go out to get wrecked.

As you can see the drivers make their cars look like the full size equivalent and I think you'll agree they make a pretty good job with door plates & roof fins.

They Paint the cars with Name & number on the side some drivers use an airbrush to give it that extra dimension of realism.

In addition to regular club meetings, there is also national championships for this class where the country’s best drivers race to win the title of European Champion, British Champion & World Champion. One-off events are held on friday & Sunday race meeting Dates of these are found in the Banger Fixture list. These provide a stepping stone from club to national competition.
